Shipping containers are sometimes referred to as “conex boxes” The two terms refer to the same intermodal containers that are used for international shipping, so there is no distinction between them. Other names for shipping containers include “sea cans,” “marine containers,” “cargo containers,” and “freight containers.”
Because of their use in shipping goods abroad, shipping containers are also sometimes referred to as “ocean containers.” Conex boxes can also be referred to as “SeaLand containers,” which is a reference to a container shipping company that is no longer in business, though this usage is becoming less common.
